Pavilions

Where people gather, memories are made. Our timber pavilions provide the shelter and the soul for your favorite outdoor spaces.

Pavilions

A pavilion is more than a roof on posts. It’s where summer weddings happen. Where farmers markets find shade. Where families gather for birthdays and reunions. Where kids play while parents talk. At Foothills, we supply the massive timbers that become these gathering places.

We offer three exceptional wood species cut from Southern Yellow Pine, Black Locust and Eastern Red Cedar.

Black Locust is an exceptionally hard, beautifully grained hardwood harvested in the southern Appalachian Mountain regions. Black Locust is the “American Ipe/Teak that is homegrown and sustainably harvested.

Eastern Red Cedar is an aromatic, beautifully grained softwood that rivals the rot, decay resistance, and beauty of Western Red Cedar. Our hardwood and softwood pine pavilion timbers are milled to handle wide spans, heavy snow loads, and decades of outdoor exposure. We provide the bones. You create the memories.

Buyers receive durable, carefully crafted timber pavilions with strong construction, consistent quality, and customizable design, delivering long-lasting outdoor structures that enhance spaces and withstand weather conditions.

Building a pavilion requires thinking differently than building a house. The spans are wider. The loads are heavier. The exposure to weather is constant. The wood must perform structurally while also creating a space that feels welcoming and warm. We understand these demands.

Our pavilion timbers start with careful species selection. Southern Yellow Pine, Eastern Red Cedar and Black Locust offers exceptional strength-to-weight ratio and in the case of Black Locust and Eastern Red Cedar substantially reduces the maintenance time and expense in treating and sealing applications in order to protect against rot, decay and insect infestation.

Our Southern Yellow Pine can be pressure treated or it accepts sealants and water proofing treatments deeply into the fiber to prevent rot and decay.

For exposed elements timbers, we specify Treated Southern Yellow Pine, but if you desire untreated naturally decay resistant we suggest either Black Locust if you like a darker hardwood or Eastern Red Cedar if you prefer a beautiful wood grain with a wonderful aromatic scent.

And if you are looking to install a deck that will last decades and rivals Ipe and Teak, look no further than the striking hardwood grain of Appalachian Mountain grown Black Locust, which will withstand rain, snow, and sun for decades. And for interior elements where treatment isn’t needed, Appalachian hardwoods bring rich grain and warmth.

We mill each timber to your engineering specifications, ensuring proper dimensions for connections and structural performance. Before shipping, we inspect every piece for defects that could compromise strength. Whether you are building a simple backyard pavilion for family gatherings or a large public structure for community events, our timbers provide the foundation.

We also understand that pavilions often include other wood elements, perhaps oak timbers for decorative trusses or benches that invite people to sit and stay awhile. From foundation to ridge beam, we supply the wood that makes your pavilion possible.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Your Questions, Answered!

Southern Yellow Pine is excellent for structural elements due to its strength and treatability. For covered areas protected from weather, Appalachian hardwoods like oak offer beautiful grain for decorative elements. We will help you select the right combination of species for your specific design and climate.

For exposed elements, we specify treatment appropriate for your climate and application. Treated Southern Yellow Pine receives pressure-treated preservatives that penetrate deeply, protecting against rot, insects, and moisture for decades. Treatment levels vary based on ground contact versus above-ground applications.

Yes, when appearance matters, we can select logs with similar grain characteristics and mill them together to ensure visual consistency. For structures where wood will be visible and unfinished, this attention to matching creates a cohesive, intentional look that enhances the overall design.

We focus on providing quality timbers milled to your specifications. Installation is typically handled by your contractor or construction team. We are happy to provide guidance on proper handling, storage, and installation practices to ensure your timbers perform as designed.

We provide the timbers milled to your engineering specifications. For structural engineering and design, we recommend working with a licensed professional who can assess your specific site conditions, local building codes, and load requirements. We are happy to coordinate with your engineer.

We produce timbers ranging from 4x4 up to 20x20, with lengths up to 38 feet. This allows for substantial spans and dramatic designs. For larger projects requiring longer lengths, we can discuss engineered connections that maintain structural integrity while achieving your design vision.

Lead times vary based on project size, timber dimensions, and current production schedules. Typical pavilion packages require 4-8 weeks from order to delivery. Complex designs with large timbers or specialty species may take longer. Contact us early in your planning process.
